German Prosecutor’s Late Motion Gives German Ministers More Time to Free Captain Paul Watson!

Photo: Barbara VeigaSea Shepherd expected news on the fate of Captain Paul Watson to be announced yesterday by the German Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt but as hours passed on, no word was received from the general public prosecutor until close of business hours. At 1800 hrs, the general public prosecutor finally submitted his motion for a preliminary extradition arrest warrant against Captain Paul Watson. The late filing of this motion, coupled with a German bank holiday today, has given Captain Paul Watson’s supporters and allies until this Friday to appeal to German Federal Minister of Justice Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Guido Westerwelle’s standards for International Human Rights.

Lead legal counsel for Captain Paul Watson, Oliver Wallasch, had this to say about the general public prosecutor’s motion on Wednesday:

“Absolutely unusual – I never had this experience in all my practice in cross border cases – the fact that the public prosecutor stated, that the German Ministry of Justice and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs have the power to stop the extradition procedure on political reasons.”

Thus the keys to Captain Paul Watson’s freedom are in the hands of the Honorable Minister of Justice and the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs. We therefore ask all supporters of Captain Paul Watson to immediately contact the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to ask them to end the unjust and politically-motivated extradition of Captain Paul Watson before a panel of judges decides Captain Paul Watson’s fate on Friday.

For days, Sea Shepherd supporters from Germany and around the world have expressed their concerns about the political nature of this extradition, as well as their concern for the safety of Captain Paul Watson, to Federal Minister of Justice Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger. Given the motion made by the general public prosecutor, it is now time to also focus attention on Minster of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Guido Westerwelle. Either Minister (or both Ministers) can take the action that Interpol has already taken and acknowledge that the case against Captain Paul Watson is politically-motivated and is a violation of Captain Paul Watson’s human rights.

Should the Honorable Ministers fail to put the brakes on the persecution of Captain Paul Watson, the extradition process will proceed and Costa Rica will have a maximum of 90 days, from the time that he was arrested, to put forward their bogus case for extradition. During this time, Captain Paul Watson would remain isolated in prison, awaiting an extradition that would be tantamount to a death sentence.

The Taiwanese Shark Fin Mafia has had a $20,000 bounty on his head for years. We know the arm of the Taiwanese Shark Finning Mafia reaches not just to the illegal fishing industry in Costa Rica, but also to the prison system there. Sea Shepherd fears that not only would Captain Paul Watson not receive a fair trial in Costa Rica, but he would likely not survive jail long enough to see the inside of a court room.

This is our final effort to ask the Honorable Ministers to intervene before the extradition process officially begins. We only have hours to change the minds of the German officials who can make a difference and not only save the life of Captain Paul Watson, but also save the lives of whales, dolphins, seals, and fish that he has spent his life courageously defending.

While visiting Captain Paul Watson in prison, Ship Operations Officer, Peter Hammarstedt and Director of Intelligence and Investigations, Scott West were able to obtain a handwritten note from Captain Paul Watson to his supporters, which you can read at the bottom of this article.

The emotions arriving are those of the people. It is very important to send this message of love via the strongest transporters and of influential people you know, the chain will grow. You have put your finger on THE solution: LOVE. Even you and people like you need to embrace unconditional love first, in order for others to follow the wave. This is not a test but rather a trial for you and the energy and its power. It is necessary to use it because simple signs and microphones will not get you where you need to go, not only where you want to go but really where you need to go… it is essential to initiate the influence process by LOVE. Admittedly, this is a manipulation, but when it is done with love and by love, it can only be the right path. This present message is one of great importance for you. Your work is essential, go beyond yourself. It is your obligation; it is your duty to make this wave take off.
You are not the only one to get this message. Many beings on this earth are receiving the same message. You have received some already. This message is concentrated during this critical period, the power of the mass during a same time period is of an astronomic power. The same day you send this message, you will already feel and see changes. The uprisings of people were necessary to get the mass energy. Now it is necessary to take away the hatred of each individual ( no matter the reason they gave themselves, government, earth, theft, education fees, rich, poor…to steal the essence of beings). It is time to add love.
Imagine these people, the leaders we love to hate, imagine the amount of hatred they receive. Now, how do expect them to be able to guide us in all this hatred energy… you have to restart this exercise (the biggest one ever), to replace this hatred by love. By time, it will be difficult but so profitable for the planet, and this, even on the short run. If we do this exercise in a favorable time, we might save our majestic Polar Bear.
Your lands are precious but your souls and beings are even more precious. It is when you will favor to save your souls and beings… that you will be able to win the combat and Mother Earth.
There is much more to this combat than the Earth’s richness. That is your goal, but the road to get there is your real goal.
Are you ready to change the world? Are you ready to Love, to forgive, to look inside yourself to achieve this task that is as huge as Mother Earth. This is the true battle. The governments, the high rulers, the wealthy, are all people stemming from a place of blame and not love. This is like a necessity of yours. We are not asking you to distort yourself but to embellish your person. To embellish, to a point of saving this majestic Mother Earth.
The remainder will fallow.
People like you, (that believe in the power of energy) will have ease to understand the work that energy can do (LOVE). For those who are less familiar with this language, you will still be affected and your inner work will be improved. When you will meet people (beings) that are the opposite of your image, and these people will awaken contrariety on your path of unconditional LOVE, it is of course because your still have this personal work to do to get to this place of LOVE.
Now, we can already see debates in your beings… to whom may I speak of this without passing for a complete crank. But please avoid stopping on this question, for it has such little importance.
Since the beginning of times we have been repeating this to you “love one another”. This is because it is the answer to all of your terrestrial challenges. To the opposite of this road, there is always destruction. The more the mass is in the opposite direction, the more the destruction is massive. The climate changes are ENERGY…
Think about it. We implore you to fallow this greater way, brighter, higher, in order to improve the fate of your humanity and of your Mother Earth.
Send this LOVE wave. Each being on this earth is equipped with it. Your future depends on it.

Germany Considers Sending Whale Defender to What Will be a Death Sentence in Costa Rica

Today in Frankfurt, Germany the general Public Prosecutor to the Higher Regional Court requested a preliminary extradition arrest warrant against Captain Paul Watson, on the basis of the local arrest warrant and request for extradition from Costa Rica. In a highly unusual move, the Public Prosecutor stated that the German Ministry of Justice and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs have the power to stop the extradition procedures on political grounds.

If the German Ministry of Justice and/or the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs give notice that they would not grant an extradition of Paul Watson to Costa Rica the case would be over, and Captain Watson would be set free immediately. We ask our supporters to continue to appeal the German Ministry of Justice for help.

Sea Shepherd representatives were able to visit Captain Watson in the Frankfurt prison this morning and they were able to record the following statement from Captain Watson:

In our efforts to defend the lives of whales, dolphins, seals, sharks, and fish we have made some powerful enemies, most notably the government of Japan. It is no coincidence that the extradition request by Costa Rica was issued the same month (October 2011) as the Japanese whaling (ICR) lawsuit against Sea Shepherd was initiated. The extradition request was in reference to a complaint from Costa Rican fishermen who I caught poaching in Guatemalan waters. The fishermen were not injured and their boat was not damaged. The incident was fully documented for the film Sharkwater. Interpol originally denied this extradition order and deemed it as politically motivated. Therefore the question must be asked why Germany is now taking into account accusations made by illegal poachers.”- Captain Paul Watson

Captain Watson has travelled extensively throughout the world since the Costa Rican government issued this arrest warrant in October of 2011. He has been to Australia, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, etc. None of these countries have sought to arrest Captain Watson as Germany has.

Should Captain Watson be extradited to Costa Rica, he will certainly not receive a fair trial and his safety cannot be guaranteed. Sea Shepherd is doing everything it can to provide Captain Watson the best legal defense team possible. Between the illegal Japanese whalers and the shark finning mafia in Costa Rica, Captain Watson has formidable enemies who seek to stop his efforts to defend marine life.

We are deeply concerned that Germany has decided to detain, our personal friend, Captain Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, with the intent of extraditing him to Costa Rica. We understand that the warrant issued from Costa Rica, for Captain Watson’s arrest, is economically/politically motivated, possibly due to an incident in which the Sea Shepherd, upholding United Nation’s Law, was attempting to prevent an illegal shark finning operation, to which the Costa Rican Government was seemingly aware of.

We are in full support of the Sea Shepherd’s efforts to protect the lifeblood of our Mother Earth. In our effort to honor Captain Paul Watson and the Sea Shepherd’s work, in 2007 we had presented Captain Paul Watson with ships’ registrations and flags from the Mohawk Nation, representing the 5 Nations Confederacy. This marked a historic event as the Sea Shepherd vessels are the first sea-faring ships to fly the symbol of the Five Nations Confederacy presented by the Mohawk Nation of Turtle Island. It is with great honor that our flags fly on Sea Shepherd vessels to this day. As such, we have a very deep concern for his personal welfare.

Many individuals, corporations and governments are trying to stop Paul from continuing the work of the Sea Shepherd, so they may continue to profit from the illegal destruction of ocean life. Due to economic pressures, the people of Costa Rica are forced to work in such an atmosphere. In a country where a large part of the population may have a personal hatred for Paul, releasing him to that atmosphere raises concerns for his personal safety.

We recognize our friend, Captain Paul Watson, for his efforts and dedication in defense of Mother Earth, on behalf of all future generations. We urge you to consider the valuable work of Captain Paul Watson and the Sea Shepherd as well as the issues that we bring to your attention in considering your extraditing of him. At best, we would be indebted to you If you were to release him from this “economic/political” maneuver.
